Sharing is Caring: Why Did I Break My Fasting Routine?

Hey there!

From the very beginning of this Âme journey, we’ve had a deep desire to share knowledge, learn new things, and be part of a community of like-minded people who speak the same language and share valuable insights.

That’s how the idea for Sharing is Caring was born! Each month, we’ll share a personal story or journey, along with helpful resources we’ve discovered along the way.

Now, let’s dive into this month’s topic…

Why did I break my Fasting routine?

I fasted for 16 hours for more than 2 years.

The moment I started to listen to my body and embracing the hard times, but not suppressing them I realized I couldn’t fast as easily as I used to, especially on days when I felt more hungry or had less energy than usual.

Then I started working with my health coach and she recommended fasting based on each stage of my menstrual cycle. This method is based on Dr. Mindy Peltz’s book Fast Like a Girl.

This approach is very interesting and it synchronizes each stage of your MC with the hormone status of that current moment and it shows for how many hours it’s recommended to fast.

I approached this gradually, incorporating fasting into my routine while closely monitoring my health under my coach’s supervision. This plan included a 24-hour fast on the fifth day of my menstrual cycle.

Interestingly, I had tried 24-hour lunar fasting before, with a few successful attempts and some failures.

Thanks to the science and my health coach, this time I felt totally fine! The fasts were aligned with my hormonal cycle, and I never experienced extreme hunger or exhaustion.

Everything was going smoothly until this summer.

Then I started traveling a lot, and maintaining my fasting routine became too difficult. Almost every week, I was in a different country, with new breakfast options and completely different schedules. Fasting began to exhaust me, adding stress as I tried to maintain my routine.

The most practical solution was to STOP fasting.

I still decided to stick to the 24-hour fast on the fifth day of my MC, the only difference this time was that on busy days, I allowed myself some fruit instead of only water.

Disclaimer: This information is not medical advice or a recommendation to try fasting. I’m simply sharing my personal journey, hoping it might help someone else. What I’ve learned for sure is that taking things to the extreme can be really damaging.

Our point is – Listen to your body’s needs—it knows best!

As a special bonus, we’ve also attached our free e-book, which explains hormone-based fasting, inspired by Dr. Mindy Peltz’s Fast Like a Girl, with an additional explanation – Fasting for men.
